Drives and Vitality
Ideally, everyone has those moments at work when you think: “How wonderful it is to do this!” There are tasks that inspire us and give us energy, while there are also obligations that give us less energy and we would prefer to postpone. And we often do postpone these tasks until they really must be done. By postponing, these tasks ultimately only consume more energy.
How can you get yourself to do it anyway?
To know that, you need to discover what drives you in your work. What motivates you is determined by how you view the world, what you find important, what is necessary for practicing your profession, and what falls within your area of responsibility.
How do you motivate yourself and your colleagues so that excellent performance is delivered with pleasure? This varies for everyone based on your own personal motivations.
More job satisfaction with insight into your drives
Drives largely determine how you function. Your behavior is largely determined by your perceptions, motivation to do or not do things, the things you like to spend energy on, and your style of collaboration, coaching, management, and decision-making.
Align your style of communication and action so that collaborating, leading, motivating, and coaching colleagues generates energy rather than costing it, that talents are addressed, and that collaboration happens naturally, increasing job satisfaction!
Vitality
Vitality literally means life force. It is the mental and physical condition of an individual that leads to the energy to live. Vitality is determined by the balance between four sources:
Physical: movement, endurance, strength, coordination, and recovery ability. In other words, the extent to which you feel physically strong and healthy.
Mental: stress regulation, attention control, self-confidence, dealing with setbacks, and personal development. In other words, the extent to which you stand strong.
Social-emotional: assertiveness, conflict handling, insight into the needs and feelings of others, and positive collaboration. In other words, the extent to which you feel connected to your environment.
Spiritual: finding meaning, setting goals and motivation. In other words, your personal drives and beliefs.
The balance between these four sources determines your vitality. So, vitality is actually about the connection between your body, head, heart, and soul.
How vitality helps to utilize the power of your drives even more:
- Extend the power of your dominant drives by taking a short ‘break’
- Pause consciously to employ positive behavior from less present drives
- Make conscious choices when things are tough so that your recovery ability quickly becomes okay again
- Easier handling of irritations from rejections
- Easier dealing with things that consume energy and consciously taking a moment to recharge your energy
- Recognizing when you are in your Mindset, what your Fixed Mindset is, and what you need for your Growth Mindset
Align your style of communication and action so that collaborating, leading, motivating, and coaching colleagues generates energy rather than costing it, that talents are addressed, and that collaboration happens naturally, increasing job satisfaction!
